Avery Williams
Williams Acosta, PLLC

Avery Williams is a co-managing and founding member of Detroit-based Williams Acosta, PLLC, a diverse business law firm. Mr. Williams is a 1979 magna cum laude graduate of Michigan State University and a 1982 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.

Mr. Williams concentrates his practice in commercial and general business litigation, environmental law and litigation, and eminent domain law. He has also represented the City of Detroit, the Detroit/Wayne County Stadium
Authority and several large national corporations in various eminent domainrelated
cases, including the Detroit dual Stadia Project, the Waterfront Reclamation and Casino Development Project, NDC Project No. 1 and the Brush Park South Rehabilitation Project.

He has been lead counsel in the representation of the Detroit Water & Sewage Department (DWSD) and at the forefront of the department’s efforts, successes and accomplishments in the environmental arena. Mr. Williams has also represented various municipalities, including the City of Detroit, the City of Pontiac, and the City of Inkster, on various environmental and brownfields matters.

Mr. Williams is admitted to practice before all Michigan courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. A frequent author and speaker, Mr. Williams’ articles have appeared in numerous professional journals, including Michigan Hospitals and Health Administration Press.

Mr. Williams is a Charter member, former Director and past President of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, and a former Executive Board Member and Treasurer of the Michigan Black Law Alumni Association. Mr. Williams is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association and the Wolverine Bar Association.
