Welcome to the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association!

Founded in 1990, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association is an organization with a rich history in Southeast, Michigan. It is also an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association (NBA). Straker reaches a significant milestone during the 2010-2011 bar year as we celebrate 20 years of service! As we celebrate we will be reflecting upon the Association's many accomplishments and contributions to the legal community.

Our mission is to increase minority representation in the legal profession, support and encourage legal practice opportunities for minorities, and facilitate equal justice for underserved members of the Oakland County community.

Straker's prominence has come to fruition through the involvement and dedication of its members. Throughout our existence our members have demonstrated a true commitment to Straker's mission. As we embark on another decade of service I anticipate continued involvement and even greater dedication.

As President, I intend to further the mission of this great organization by focusing on several key areas including:

• Increasing the Association's involvement in diversity pipeline initiatives;
• Expanding membership services; and
• Increasing membership involvement in community service.

In keeping with these key areas, Straker will provide programming that is relevant insightful and informative. And, as always our events will continue to provide great networking opportunities.

This is a great year to become a member of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association! I invite you to get involved as we further the mission of this great organization. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President and I look forward to working with you!
